USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ART HOUSE CONVERGENCE AND THE HOMESTEAD RESORT
– SNOW BOOTS & SWIMMING SUITS!?! The Homestead Resort became a relaxing retreat over 120 years ago because of its natural warm mineral water crater. Sitting in a mineral water fed hot tub and swimming or scuba diving in the crater are the traditional activities for relaxation at the Homestead. The Homestead also has an excellent spa with massage and other relaxing treatments as well as cross country skiing, snow shoeing and sleigh rides.
– DRESS CODE: The Convergence style guide is the same as the Sundance Film Festival’s: Winter casual. The typical Convergence “uniform” is snow boots, jeans, and a ski jacket or ski vest (plus mittens, scarves, etc.).– THINK “PINETREE INN” (like in the movie “White Christmas”): The Homestead Resort has a central registration, restaurant and Conference Center area. The guest rooms are NOT attached to the central area. The guest rooms are located in charming bungalow out buildings, so prepare yourself to walk (but not terribly far) from your room to the Conference Center in the cold and snow.
– INTERNET CONNECTIVITY: The Homestead Resort has FREE wireless Internet in all the guest rooms and conference rooms throughout the resort. So bring your laptop and know you can take it everywhere.
– CELL PHONE CONNECTIVITY: Verizon Wireless has solid coverage and works everywhere. All other cell phone carriers have signal availability, but rather spotty coverage.
– BUSINESS CENTER: The Convergence office will have one printer which you may use to print documents from your lap top. The Resort has a very limited business center with one very old computer, a printer and an OK copier. The Resort’s management office has a high speed copier that session leaders can use if they need to reproduce material for their sessions.
– GETTING TO THE HOMESTEAD: The Resort is 51 miles from the Salt Lake City International Airport. In good weather it takes about an hour to drive to the Resort from the airport. Park City is about half way between Salt Lake and the Homestead (i.e. you will pass Park City as you head toward the Homestead). Contact the hotel (866-626-5275) for shuttle transportation recommendations.
– THE RESORT IS PEACEFUL (meaning it is a bit remote): You will be kept very busy during the Convergence. Most meals are provided as part of your Convergence fee and there is a decent restaurant at the Resort (the Homestead is classified as an AAA Three Diamond and Mobile Three Star Resort). There are other restaurants in the small town of Midway (were the Homestead is located), but you will need an automobile to reach them. – DINING AT THE HOMESTEAD: The restaurant at the Resort is called Simon’s. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served in the restaurant. There is full bar service in the restaurant. Meals provided by the Convergence at no additional charge to delegates are: Tuesday – Dinner; Wednesday – Continental Breakfast and Dinner; Thursday – Continental Breakfast and Lunch. A vegetarian option will be provided for all meals. Let us know if you prefer the vegetarian option and please tell us in advance about any dietary restrictions.
